Introduction to Patriarch Jingong

The Grand Patriarch’s last name was Lu, and his given name was Zhongyi. His Tao title was Tonglizi. His hometown was Jining, Shandong. He was the incarnation of Maitreya Buddha.
The Grand Patriarch was born on the twenty-fourth day of the fourth month of the Chinese lunar calendar in 1849. He lost his parents when he was a child and lived with his younger sister in a dilapidated house outside of town. He led a difficult life. When the Grand Patriarch was twenty-two years old, he joined the army. In 1895, when he was forty-eight years old, the Grand Patriarch was inspired by the Almighty, so he resigned from the army and went to seek Tao from Patriarch Liu, Qingxu in Qingzhou, Shandong.
In 1900, the Grand Patriarch became a Representative Master and began to propagate Tao. In 1905, he became the Seventeenth Patriarch. The Grand Patriarch returned to heaven on the second day of the second month of the Chinese lunar calendar in 1925. He was seventy-three. The Almighty conferred on him the heavenly title of Patriarch Jingong.
When the Grand Patriarch returned to heaven, the Great Tao had been propagated to Shandong, Henan, Shanxi, Shaanxi, etc. There were tens of thousands of disciples. On the third day of the third month of the following year, the Grand Patriarch channeled through Yang, Chunling, a medium from Shanxi, to perform miracles at Jining, Shandong for a hundred days and to articulate the “Wondrous Classic of Jingong” and the “True Sutra of Maitreya.” Countless people of later generations would recite the true sutras, and there were numerous miracles.
